13 Inch Prop Guard Propeller Safety Guard for Outboard 40 65 HP Boat Prop Protector
13 Inch Prop Guard Propeller Safety Guard for Outboard 40 65 HP Boat Prop Protector
Product Overview
13 inch propeller safety guard for outboard motors from 40 HP to 65 HP, a two piece polypropylene part that clamps around the propeller at the cavitation plate and skeg. It fits Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Tohatsu, Johnson and Evinrude outboards in that power range, it is supplied as one guard with its clamp system and bolts, and it weighs 2699 g with its packaging.
The guard is a ring of moulded bars that sits around the propeller and stops anything solid reaching the blades. In practice it earns its place in three situations: a family boat where swimmers are in the water next to the engine, a tender used around moorings where rope and line float at the surface, and shallow water where the propeller is close to rock and gravel.
It also changes how a boat handles a mistake. A learner driver who touches the bottom with a guarded propeller usually keeps the blade intact, and a rope that would otherwise wrap the shaft runs off the cage instead of stalling the engine. Neither of those is a substitute for keeping a proper lookout, but both reduce the cost of a bad minute.
The cage has no moving parts, no wiring and no hoses, so there is nothing to maintain and nothing to fail in service. Both halves are attached in a clam-shell arrangement, which means the guard goes on and comes off without removing the propeller.
Fitment is universal across outboard manufacturers, but the guard has to clear the propeller and the trim range. Check the stern to propeller clearance and confirm the guard does not interfere with trim and tilt before relying on it, and check that the 13 inch size matches the propeller fitted to the engine.
