Product Overview

Dual output wire ignition coil for Johnson and Evinrude two-stroke outboards from 2 HP to 175 HP, supplied as 1 x coil. It is the replacement part for OMC 0583740, 583040, 583298 and 0777664, and crosses to Sierra 18-5170, CDI 183-3740, GLM 72060, Mallory 9-23104 and Mercury 879614. Dual output means one coil fires two plug leads in the wasted-spark pattern these engines use, so a single failed coil stops both cylinders in its pair: the engine drops onto the other coil, loses half its power and runs rough at idle while the good coil keeps it running.

Before You Buy

  • Check the engine model and serial number against the fitment table, not every year in a range uses this coil
  • Confirm the coil has two plug lead towers, the single output version will not fit
  • Test the pair, an engine that loses two cylinders at once usually has one dead coil
  • Renew the plug leads if the boots are cracked, a leaking boot takes the new coil with it
  • Check the coil ground and the stator output before blaming the coil alone
  • 30-Day Easy Returns
