Product Overview
Water pump repair kit for Mercury and Mariner outboards from 8 HP to 25 HP, including the 9.9, 13.5, 15, 18 and 20 HP models. It replaces Mercury 99157T2, 99157A2 and 85098A2. The kit is the complete pump, not just the rubber, so it carries the impeller, the stainless face plate, the housing and cup, plus the gasket, O-rings and seals that have to be renewed with it. These small two-stroke and four-stroke gearcases share one pump body, which is why a single kit number covers eight horsepower ratings and both Mercury Bigfoot and standard legs.
On an engine this size the pump is fed by nothing more than the forward motion of the boat and the impeller's own squeeze, so a set of vanes that has spent a winter folded up will pump air at idle and overheat the powerhead on a long plane. Replacing the whole cartridge, housing included, also fixes the scored cup that a failed impeller usually leaves behind.

- Check the serial number on the transom bracket against the range table, Mercury changed pump bodies inside this horsepower band
- 9.9 and 15 HP Bigfoot legs use a longer housing than the standard leg, this kit covers both
- Clean the gearcase mating face and remove every trace of the old gasket before fitting the new one
- Tighten the housing bolts evenly in a cross pattern, an uneven pull is what cracks the cup
