Carburetor Repair Kit 439076 435443 18-7046 for Johnson Evinrude OMC V4 V6 9.9-235 HP
Carburetor Repair Kit 439076 435443 18-7046 for Johnson Evinrude OMC V4 V6 9.9-235 HP
Product Overview
Carburetor repair kit for Johnson, Evinrude and OMC outboards, the full set of gaskets, needles, seats and seals that goes into one carburettor body. It replaces 439076 and the older numbers 383906, 390055, 392550, 398526, 434888 and 435443 and crosses to Sierra 18-7046, and it is one kit in a 15 x 18 x 1 cm pack.
The kit covers the V4 and V6 crossflow motors built from 1971 to 2002, from the 9.9 HP up to the 235 HP, and the OMC Sea Drive, Quiet Rider and Turbojet 1.6 litre, 2.5 litre and 2.6 litre engines from 1982 to 1997 in mechanical, hydraulic and ducted form.
These carburettors sit on motors that are mostly forty years old now, and the gaskets under the float bowl and the needle and seat are the two parts that fail. Ethanol fuel takes the rubber tips off old needles, and a needle that does not seal floods the motor at idle and loads the plugs black within a season.

| Fuel leaking from the bowl gasket | Old gasket hardened | Kit, then check the float height |
| Black wet plugs | Rich idle mixture from a worn needle | Kit, then set the mixture screws |
| Rough idle that will not tune out | Air leaking past a gasket | Kit and check for warped faces |

Working on Crossflow Carburettors
| Situation | What Matters | Note |
|---|---|---|
| One carburettor per bank | Renew every carburettor at the same time | A mixed set will never balance |
| Ethanol blended fuel | Old rubber needle tips swell and stick | Fit the kit and run fresh fuel |
| Bowl screws seized | The bowl is soft aluminium | Soak first, do not force a screwdriver |
| Float height out of spec | Flooding or a lean idle | Set the float level from the manual |
| Linked carburettors | The linkage has to be reset after | Check the sync before the first run |
| Motor stored over winter | Varnish sets in the jets | Drain the bowls before laying up |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the number on the old carburettor, 439076 crosses to Sierra 18-7046 |
| 2 | Work on a clean bench, the small parts are easy to lose |
| 3 | Note where every gasket and jet came from as it comes apart |
| 4 | Soak the body in carburettor cleaner and blow out every passage |
| 5 | Fit the new needle, seat and gaskets, no sealant anywhere |
| 6 | Set the float height to the manual figure |
| 7 | Set the mixture screws to the base setting before starting |
| 8 | Run the motor and tune the idle, then check the plugs after a trip |
