This is the flush plastic pull handle that sits in the lid of a rod locker or livewell compartment. The latch is keyed, so the compartment can be locked when the boat is left on the trailer or at a dock, and the key stays with the boat owner rather than in a cup holder. The handle is moulded in a single plastic piece with no exposed spring, which is why it survives the sun and the constant slam of a fishing lid better than the metal-on-metal latches.

These break for two reasons. The plastic tab that the key cam lifts wears until the latch no longer releases, or the mounting ears crack when the lid is closed on a full locker. Either way the compartment will not stay shut, and a locker lid that flaps on the highway will take the hinge with it. Replacing the latch alone is a ten minute job with a screwdriver.
