Product Overview

Ignition switch key assembly, a replacement part for the Yamaha remote control box that carries the key, the start position, the stop position and a push to choke. It replaces the 703-82510 family, 703-82510-40 through 703-82510-45, all with the suffix -00, and crosses to Sierra MP51040.

The 703 control box is the one on most Yamaha outboards from 8 HP to 225 HP, two-stroke and four-stroke, and the switch is the part that fails. The key barrel wears, the start contacts pit, or the choke push stops returning, and the engine becomes hard to start or will not shut off. The whole assembly is replaced rather than repaired because the contacts are sealed in the body.

The switch comes with its key, so there is no coding to arrange and the old key is retired with the old switch. The connections are the standard Yamaha loom colours, which means the job is a swap and not a wiring exercise: pull the box apart, unclip the harness, swap the switch and refit.

• Note the position of each terminal before unclipping the harness, the colours match but the order matters
