Outboard fuel filter element part for Yamaha four-stroke outboards from 4 HP to 9.9 HP, replacing 68T-24251-00, 68T-24251-01, 6EE-F4251-00 and 646-24251-02, plus Sierra 18-7710. It fits the F4, F6 and F8 models, with the 6 HP and 8 HP applications covering 2001 and later, and it drops into the original filter housing without adaptors. This is the element that sits in the engine mounted filter bowl and stops water and debris before the fuel pump. On a four-stroke of this size the bowl is small, so a part blocked element shows up quickly: the motor starves at high RPM, surges at a steady cruise, stalls when idling down to the dock, or refuses to prime after a fuel line change.
The element is a service item, not a repair. Change it at the interval, drain the bowl into a clear container and look for water or grit, and if there is either, clean the tank and the primer bulb before fitting the new element. Reusing an old element to save a few pounds usually costs a set of plugs inside a fortnight.
