Product Overview
Fuel filter element for Yamaha four-stroke outboards from 30 HP to 115 HP, supplied as 1 element weighing 49 g in a 15 x 10 x 4 cm (5.9 x 3.9 x 1.6 in) pack. It replaces Yamaha 6C5-24251-00-00, 6C5-24251-00, 6C5-24251-01 and 6C5-24251, and crosses to Sierra 18-79983. The element sits in the engine-mounted bowl under the cowling on the F30, F40, F50, T50, F60, T60, F70, F75, F90, F115, LF115 and VF115 four-strokes built from 2005 to 2015. Held in our United States local warehouse.
It traps water and grit before they reach the high-pressure pump and the injectors, which is why the interval matters more on a four-stroke than on the carburettor motors these replaced.
The usual failure is not a motor that will not start. It is a motor that runs perfectly until the boat comes on plane and then loses revs or surges, because the element can pass enough fuel at idle and not enough at load.

Ethanol Fuel and the Element
| What Happens | Where You See It | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| E10 absorbs water from the tank vent | Milky fuel in the bowl | Drain the bowl, fit a new element |
| Phase separation after a long lay up | Rough running on the first trip | Drain the tank and the bowl first |
| Ethanol loosens old deposits | Element clogs early after the switch | Change it again after the first tank |
| Dirty fuel from a marina tank | Surge at speed | New element, keep a spare aboard |
| Element overdue at the service interval | Loss of top end, hard starting hot | Replace on the interval, not when it fails |
| Water in the bowl never drained | Corrosion in the bowl and the pump | Drain before every long trip |
Service Interval
| Use | Replace | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Seasonal boater, 50 hours a year | Once a season | Cheap compared with an injector |
| Frequent use, 100 hours a year | Every season and at 100 hours | Follow the engine schedule |
| Commercial or guide boat | Every 100 hours | Keep two spares on board |
| Boat stored over winter | In spring, before the first run | Old fuel sits in the bowl all winter |
| After a tank of suspect fuel | Immediately | Do not run the motor through it |
| After any water alarm or stall | Immediately | Then drain the bowl again after the first trip |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Confirm the model code on the cowling, these elements run from F30 to F115 |
| 2 | Switch off the fuel line and put a rag under the bowl before it comes apart |
| 3 | Drain the bowl and look at what comes out, water or grit tells you about the tank |
| 4 | Clean the bowl and the seal seat before the new element goes in |
| 5 | Check the O-ring, a hardened one will weep and look like a filter failure |
| 6 | Prime the system and run the motor, then check the bowl for leaks |
| 7 | Take the boat out under load and confirm it holds full throttle |
| 8 | Write the date on the filter housing, the next change is then a decision not a guess |
