Hydrofoil Stabilizer Kit 5 HP to 150 HP Dual Wing for Mercury Yamaha Johnson Honda Suzuki Tohatsu Outboard PA66 Nylon SS316 — Australia Local Warehouse
Hydrofoil Stabilizer Kit 5 HP to 150 HP Dual Wing for Mercury Yamaha Johnson Honda Suzuki Tohatsu Outboard PA66 Nylon SS316 — Australia Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Hydrofoil stabilizer kit for outboard motors from 5 HP to 150 HP, supplied as 2 wings with 4 stainless bolt sets, a drill guide and fitting instructions. Each wing measures 10-1/4 in (260 mm) high by 8-1/4 in (210 mm) wide and is moulded in PA66 nylon, and the fasteners are SS316 rather than the 304 grade that rusts first at the cavitation plate. The kit fits Mercury, Mariner, Yamaha, Johnson, Evinrude, Honda, Tohatsu and Suzuki legs in that range. Held in our Australia local warehouse.
The plate turns the flat cavitation plate above the propeller into an aerofoil. The boat climbs onto plane at lower RPM, holds plane at a lower speed, and the bow stops hunting when you come off the throttle.
On an Australian aluminium hull or a small RIB with a 20 HP to 60 HP motor this matters most in a short chop. A tinny that struggles to hold plane into a headwind will sit on top of it with a foil fitted, and the motor is working well below where it was before.

How It Works
| Effect | What You Notice |
|---|---|
| Lower planing speed | The boat gets on plane sooner, most useful at the bottom of the 5 HP to 150 HP range |
| Less bow rise | The bow stays down instead of pointing at the sky on acceleration |
| Less porpoising | The hull stops bouncing at cruise, which is the main reason people fit one |
| Less cavitation | The prop keeps bite in a turn and in a following sea |
| Better fuel economy | On plane at lower RPM, so a 150 HP motor is not working as hard |
| Steering response | Firmer at low speed and less wander at high speed |
Chop, Tinny Hulls and Shallow Water
| Where You Run | What the Foil Changes | What to Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Open bay with a short chop | Holds plane where the hull used to fall off | Check the wing clearance above the prop |
| Estuary and river mouth | Gets on plane in shallower water | Trim up when the foil is close to the bottom |
| Aluminium tinny, 20 to 60 HP | The biggest gain, these hulls respond most | Measure the flat area before drilling |
| Small RIB with a tiller motor | Less bow rise when you open the throttle | Do not fit one on a tiller motor that is trimmed by hand all the time |
| Bar crossing or following sea | Keeps the prop loaded as the stern lifts | Fit it before the season, not mid trip |
| Trailer boat, shallows and dams | Plane at lower speed, less wash | Check the foil for weed after every trip |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the motor is within the 5 HP to 150 HP range and that the cavitation plate is flat where the wings go |
| 2 | Use the drill guide from the kit, the four holes have to line up on both wings |
| 3 | Drill with the motor trimmed level, not on the boat on a trailer with the leg tilted |
| 4 | Seal each bolt with the gaskets from the kit so water cannot reach the plate |
| 5 | Fit the wings on both sides and tighten evenly, do not over compress the nylon |
| 6 | Take the boat out and record the RPM at plane before and after, the change is the proof |
| 7 | Check the bolts after the first trip, they settle into the plate |
| 8 | Inspect the wings each season for UV crazing and replace if the surface has gone chalky |
