Product Overview
Inline fuel filter for Mercury and Mariner four-stroke outboards from 40 HP to 300 HP. It replaces Mercury 35-879885Q, 879885Q, 35-879885T, 879885T, 35-879885K and 879885K, and crosses to Sierra 18-7718. The filter sits in the fuel line ahead of the engine and is the first barrier for dirt and water before the injectors.
Four-stroke outboards run high pressure fuel systems, and a filter that is partly loaded starves the injectors long before the engine refuses to start. The usual symptoms are a momentary cut at wide open throttle, a lean stumble out of a turn, and plugs that read pale on one bank. Change it at the interval in the manual and any time the boat has taken on dirty fuel.

- Check the serial number, the 75 to 115 HP four-strokes take this filter from serial 1B366823 and the 50 EFI from 1B905505
- Confirm the engine is a four-stroke, the two-stroke Mercury and Mariner outboards use a different filter
- Release the fuel pressure and catch the spill before opening the line, the system stays pressurised after the engine stops
- Note the flow direction on the old filter and fit the new one the same way round
- Prime the system and run the engine, then check both connections for weeps before the boat leaves the dock
