Product Overview
Oil filter, a spin-on service part for the Mercury and Mariner four-stroke outboards from 40HP to 60HP, and for the larger four-stroke models that use the same 822626 filter body. It replaces 35-822626Q04, 35-8M0065103 and 35-822626Q2, crosses to Sierra 18-7914, and is supplied as 1 x filter.
The 40, 50 and 60 HP four-strokes are the engines most often bought new with a boat and then serviced by the owner. They hold less than 3 litres of oil and the filter takes a share of it, so an old filter keeps dirty oil circulating and the pump has to work against a blocked element from cold. Change it every season, and at the first service after the 10 hour break-in.
The anti-drain back valve is what separates a usable filter from a cheap one on an outboard. On a tilted engine the filter drains overnight, and without the valve every start runs the bearings dry for a second or two. This filter has the valve and the bypass, and the canister is rated for the oil pressure the Mercury four-stroke runs at cruise.

Before You Buy
- Check the number on the old filter, 35-822626Q04 and 35-8M0065103 are the same filter and either number confirms fitment
- Warm the engine before draining, cold oil leaves the sludge in the sump
- Wipe the mounting face clean and oil the new filter gasket before it goes on
- Turn the filter on by hand until the gasket touches, then three quarters of a turn, no wrench
- Refill with the oil grade in the manual and check the level after a run, the filter takes part of the fill
