Product Overview
Pivot housing mounting gasket for Volvo Penta SX-A and DPS sterndrives. It replaces Volvo Penta 3889788 and ships as one gasket in a 180 mm x 150 mm x 30 mm bubble bag at 18 g.
This is the paper gasket that sits between the pivot housing and the drive, and it is the one that gets torn when the drive comes off for a bellows, a gimbal bearing or a u joint. It is a flat cut gasket, not a rubber seal, so it does not recover once it has been crushed and wetted.
The gasket is easy to overlook on a rebuild. The drive goes back on with the old one, the joint weeps a little at first and then a lot, and by the time water is in the bellows the bearing is already gone. A new gasket costs less than the fuel for one weekend and it is the cheapest insurance on the job.
Fitment covers the Volvo Penta SX-A in the SX series, the DPS-A and DPS-B in the DPS series, and the DP-H, DPH and DPR in the DP series. Check the model and serial number on the transom plate before ordering, because the same housing shape is used across several revisions.
