Product Overview
Power trim cylinder seal kit for Mercury MerCruiser sterndrives, packed at 10 x 8 x 3 cm, one complete set of the hydraulic seals that sit inside the trim cylinder. It replaces MerCruiser 25-87400A2 and 87400, and fits the Sierra 18-2649 cross reference. The kit serves the R, MR and Alpha One drives from 1983 to 1990, the Alpha One Gen II from 1991 onward, the Blackhawk and the whole Bravo family.
On a trailer boat the trim cylinder is asked to do two jobs that punish seals. It holds the leg up on the highway, and it holds the leg down against propeller thrust every time the boat is on the plane. Both are static loads, and a static load is what makes a worn seal weep rather than burst.
An Australian summer shows the problem quickly. The leg will not stay trimmed in at cruising speed, or it creeps down overnight on the mooring and the boat sits nose up by morning. Either symptom points at the cylinder, not the pump, and both are fixed by resealing rather than replacing the cylinder.
