Cooling pipe gasket kit for Volvo Penta 230 and AQ series petrol engines, replacing 416033, 831622 and 418412 and crossing to Sierra 18-3889 and Orbitrade 22037. The kit is supplied as a complete oil cooler and water pipe re-seal set.

These three gaskets sit at the joint where the water pipe meets the oil cooler on the B23 and B25 based engines. That joint is under pressure and heat, so the gaskets harden and start to weep coolant onto the block, which is usually first noticed as a sweet smell and a slow loss from the reservoir.

The kit covers the 230A and 230B, the AQ131A to AQ131D, the 250A, 250B and 251A, the AQ151A to AQ151C and the AQ171A and AQ171C. Check the old gaskets against the three numbers before ordering, because the single gasket and the full kit are sold separately.

Before You Buy

• Check the old gaskets against 416033, 831622 and 418412, this is the three piece kit
• Confirm the engine is a B23 or B25 based unit, the later six cylinder blocks use different gaskets
• Drain the coolant below the joint before the pipe comes off, or it will run into the bilge
• Clean both faces back to bare metal, old gasket left behind is the usual cause of a repeat leak
• Check the pipe spigot for corrosion pitting while it is off, a pitted face will not seal on new gaskets
• Refill with the correct coolant mix and run the engine to temperature, then recheck for weeping
