Product Overview
Shift cable end cube kit for the Volvo Penta sterndrives, 1 x end cube and 1 x cotter pin. It replaces Volvo Penta 3852329, 22966681, 22336734 and 804312, it fits the AQ, SX, DP, DP-G, DPS, DPS-M, DPX and SP drives plus the 200 to 290 range, and one kit ships at 23 g with packaging.
This is the small block that goes on the end of the shift cable and locates in the shift bracket on the engine. The cube is what turns the push and pull of the cable into the movement the shift mechanism needs, and the cotter pin is what keeps it in place.
It is a cheap part that causes an expensive problem. Once the cube wears oval or the pin drops out, the cable end starts moving in the bracket instead of moving the shift linkage, and the first thing the owner notices is a drive that will not go into gear or that jumps out of gear under load.
Nothing about that failure is gradual. The pin can last years and then go in a single trip, and losing it leaves you with neutral only, so this is worth carrying as a spare if nothing else.
Fitment covers the Volvo Penta sterndrive range from the AQ drives through the SX and DP families to the 200 to 290 numeric designations. Check the drive plate on the transom before ordering.
