Water Pump Impeller Kit 6G1-W0078-A1 for Yamaha 6 8 HP Outboard Mariner Sierra 18-3460 6N0-W0078-A0 — Australia Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Water pump impeller kit, a complete pump service part for Yamaha 6 HP and 8 HP two-stroke outboards and for the Mariner 6 HP and 8 HP motors built on the same powerhead, supplied as 8 components with a net weight of 46 g. It replaces Yamaha 6G1-W0078-00, 6G1-W0078-01 and 6G1-W0078-A1, the short kit 6N0-W0078-A0, and Sierra 18-3460. Held in our Australia local warehouse.
The kit is built around the impeller 6G1-44352-00 and carries everything else the pump needs except the housing: the cartridge insert, the cartridge outer plate, two wear plates, the gasket, the water seal and the 4 housing bolts.
On a 6 HP or 8 HP motor the pump is asked to work at displacement speed almost all the time. There is no planing run to force water through, so a tired impeller shows up as a weak telltale at idle long before the engine overheats.

Sand, Heat and the Australian Season
| What Happens Here | What It Does to the Pump | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Motor run up a sand bank at low tide | Sand scores the impeller tips and the housing liner | Flush and inspect, fit the kit if the tips are worn |
| Shallow estuary with a silt bottom | Abrasive water polishes the wear plates | Two new wear plates are in the kit |
| Boat left on the trailer for the dry season | Blades take a set and lose their curve | Fit a new impeller before the first trip back |
| Summer water temperature over 30 C | Overheating gives little warning at low speed | Check the telltale every trip |
| Motor tilted up for weeks at the ramp | Water drains out, seal dries and weeps | New water seal with the kit |
| Housing bolts corroded from salt air | They round off or snap on removal | Four new bolts supplied |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the model suffix and year against the table, the 6 and 8 HP pumps changed across the model runs |
| 2 | Compare the old impeller with 6G1-44352-00, the 4 and 5 HP engines use a different pump |
| 3 | Drain the gearcase and note the blade direction as the housing lifts off |
| 4 | Check the plastic housing for scoring, a grooved housing will wear the new impeller in a season |
| 5 | Lubricate the impeller with glycerine and turn the shaft clockwise as the pump goes back together |
| 6 | Torque the 4 housing bolts evenly, an uneven housing will not hold prime at idle |
| 7 | Run the engine on muffs and check the telltale before leaving the ramp |
| 8 | Flush the motor with fresh water after every saltwater trip |
