Thermostat kit part rated 140 °F / 60 °C for Mercury MerCruiser 2.5L 120 HP and 3.0L 140 HP GM four cylinder sterndrives built up to 1998, supplied as one thermostat and one cover gasket. It replaces 59078Q3, 59078T3, 59078T4, 59078, 59078A1 and 59078B, plus Sierra 18-3650 and 18-3550, GLM 13370, Mallory 9-43153 and the Chrysler Force numbers F85068-2, F84068-2 and F85068. Dispatched from our Germany local warehouse.
The 140 °F / 60 °C rating is the cold running stat used on raw water cooled four cylinder engines, where a hotter stat would push the engine past its safe band on a warm lake. It is not interchangeable with the 160 °F or 180 °F versions used on the V6 and V8 blocks.
Fit a new thermostat when the engine never reaches temperature, overheats at idle, or the housing has to come apart for another cooling job. Fit the gasket dry on clean faces, and check the housing for corrosion pitting while it is open, because a pitted housing will not seal even with a new gasket.
