Transom Saver Wedge with Steer Stops for Yamaha 115-350 HP Mercury Honda Johnson Suzuki 2 and 3 Ram Outboard Trailering — United States Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Transom saver wedge with two steer stops, a trailering part for outboards from 90 HP up to 350 HP with 2-ram or 3-ram trim and tilt, supplied as 1 wedge and 2 stops weighing 735 g in a pack measuring 9.49 x 4.02 x 2.44 in (24.1 x 10.2 x 6.2 cm). It is a universal fit with no OEM number, and the listed applications are Yamaha 115 to 350 HP including SHO, Mercury 135 to 300 HP, Honda 90 to 300 HP, Johnson 150 to 300 HP and Suzuki DF140 to DF300. Held in our United States local warehouse.
The wedge slides over the trim piston rod and carries the engine weight that would otherwise hang on the transom and the tilt rams. The two stops hold the engine straight, which is what keeps the cowling from swinging into the trailer frame when the boat is towed over a rough road.
Most of the damage this part prevents happens on the highway, not at the ramp. A motor left hanging on its rams for a long tow works the transom every time the trailer hits a joint, and the failures show up years later as stress cracks around the splashwell.

Two Ram or Three Ram
| Your Engine | What You Order | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Single engine, 2-ram trim and tilt | One wedge and two stops | The most common setup on 150 to 250 HP |
| Single engine, 3-ram trim and tilt | One wedge and two stops | Same wedge, the third ram changes the routing |
| Yamaha F300 to F350 V8 | Two units, one per side | Each side needs its own wedge |
| Twin engine installation | Two units | One per engine |
| Port side or starboard side | Same part | Whichever side the ram is on, check before ordering |
| Engine trimmed up for storage | Remove the wedge | It is for towing, not for long term storage |
Why the Transom Needs Help
| Load | What Happens Without It | What the Part Does |
|---|---|---|
| Towing over rough road | Engine weight hammers the transom | Weight goes down the ram to the trailer |
| Braking hard on the highway | Engine swings forward on its rams | Steer stops hold it centred |
| Engine turned to one side | Cowling can contact the trailer frame | Stops keep the leg straight ahead |
| Long tow at speed | Vibration works the tilt rams | Rams rest instead of carrying load |
| Transom already repaired | Cracks reopen under load | Removes the repeating stress |
| Boat stored on the trailer | Same load, every day | Fit it for the tow, remove it for storage |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check whether your engine has a 2-ram or 3-ram trim and tilt unit before ordering |
| 2 | Trim the engine up so the piston rod is exposed before the wedge goes on |
| 3 | Fit the steer stops at the same time, they are what keeps the engine straight |
| 4 | Check the routing on both sides, some installations put the ram on the other side |
| 5 | Confirm the wedge sits flat against the transom bracket before tightening the boat down |
| 6 | Check it again after the first few miles, straps settle on a new load |
| 7 | F300 to F350 V8 owners need two units, one for each side |
| 8 | Remove the wedge before trimming the engine down to launch |
