Product Overview

Water pump repair kit for the Suzuki DF4, DF5 and DF6 four-stroke outboards and the Suzuki built Johnson and Evinrude 4, 5 and 6 HP four-strokes. It replaces the Suzuki kit numbers 17400-98660, 17400-98661, 17400-986L0, 17400-986L1 and 17400-986L2, the OMC numbers 5033379, 5034323 and 0769680, and crosses to Sierra 18-3266, GLM 12316, 15210 and 15410, and EMP 46-46411.

Inside the kit are the impeller, the stainless wear plate, the drive key and the case gasket, which is the whole of the wear surface in a pump this size. On a 4 to 6 HP four-stroke the pump is small and works hard, and these engines are usually run in tenders and on sailboat auxiliaries where hours at low rpm are the norm. A weak telltale at idle is the first sign, long before the engine runs hot.

Before You Buy

• Check the model and serial number, the DF4A and DF6A from 2017 take the same pump as the earlier DF4 and DF6
• The Johnson and Evinrude J4, J5 and J6 four-strokes in this range are Suzuki built and use this kit, the two-strokes do not
• Check the pump housing and cup for scoring while the pump is apart, a grooved housing wears a new impeller quickly
• Fit the stainless plate from the kit, reusing a worn plate is the usual reason a new impeller fails early
• Lubricate the impeller with glycerine and turn the shaft clockwise as the housing goes down
• Run the engine on muffs and confirm a strong telltale before the boat leaves the ramp
