Product Overview
Water pump impeller kit for the Johnson and Evinrude 35, 40, 50 and 55 HP outboards from 1958 to 1978, the small repair kit that puts the water pump back in service. It replaces Johnson Evinrude 0777213 and 0377230, it also crosses to Sierra Marine 18-3083 and SEI Marine 96-365-03AE, the impeller has a 0.63 in hub and a 2.74 in outside diameter, and the kit ships in a 150 mm x 180 mm x 50 mm pack at 76 g.
The impeller is the rubber wheel inside the water pump. It turns with the drive shaft, its blades flex against the pump cup and push cooling water up to the powerhead. Every hour it runs it takes a set, and a set impeller moves less water even though it still looks whole.
This is the minor repair kit: the impeller, the key that locks it to the shaft, the gasket and the O-rings. It is for the pump that only needs the wearing parts replaced, not the one with a scored housing or a worn cup.
A tired impeller shows as a weak tell tale, a powerhead that runs hot at idle, or a water pump that has to be revved before it picks up. Left until the blades break, the pieces travel up the cooling passages and block them, which turns a kit into a powerhead.
