Mariner was the European badge for the same engines, so a boat bought at a German dealer may carry either name on the cowl and the pump underneath is identical. The number on the housing is what matters, not the badge.
Cool lake and river water keeps these motors running at a low thermostat temperature, which hides a weakening pump for longer than a warm climate would. The overheat usually arrives on the one hot day with a full boat, not gradually.
