Water Pump Impeller with Key 0396725 for Johnson Evinrude 40-75 HP 18-3053
Water Pump Impeller with Key 0396725 for Johnson Evinrude 40-75 HP 18-3053
Product Overview
Water pump impeller with key for the Johnson and Evinrude 40 to 75 HP outboards, supplied as 1 x water pump impeller and 1 x key. It replaces Johnson and Evinrude 0396725, 0437080, 0777820, 0389557 and 0432954, it crosses to Sierra 18-3053, the impeller is 91 mm outside diameter with 6 blades at 19.1 mm shaft diameter and 25.3 mm high, and it covers the 40 HP from 1999, the 60 HP from 1986, the 65 HP Commercial from 1984, the 70 HP from 1979 and the 75 HP from 1979 to 1988.
This is the service set that goes into the water pump at the top of the lower unit. The impeller is the rubber wheel the driveshaft turns, and it is the part that pushes the cooling water up to the engine.
The blades take a set when the engine sits. A boat that is used twice a season wears its impeller out from standing rather than from running, because the blades stay bent in one position and crack at the root.
The key comes with the impeller because the two wear together. The key takes the drive from the shaft, and a worn one lets a new impeller slip, which looks like a failed impeller and is not.
The brass hub is why this impeller is bought on the part number rather than on the size alone. The hub is what the shaft drives through, and a rubber only impeller of the same diameter is not the same part.

| Also written as | 396725, 437080, 777820, 389557, 432954 |
| Sierra | 18-3053 |
| Also recorded in our parts file | 432594 |
One note on the numbers. Our own parts file records this impeller against 0396725, 432594 and 0437080, and the 432594 does not appear on the manufacturer listing, which gives 0432954 and 432954 in that place. Both numbers are close enough that one may be a misreading of the other. If your engine carries a 432594 on the old impeller, send us a photo of the number before you order so we can check it against the part rather than guess.
Compatible Engines
| Horsepower | Model | Years |
|---|---|---|
| 40 HP | Not stated on the listings | 1999 and up |
| 60 HP | Not stated on the listings | 1986 and up |
| 65 HP Commercial | Not stated on the listings | 1984 and up |
| 70 HP | Not stated on the listings | 1979 and up |
| 75 HP | Not stated on the listings | 1979 through 1988 |
These are the applications given on our listing for this impeller. The 40 HP runs from 1999, the 60 HP from 1986, the 65 HP Commercial from 1984 and the 70 HP from 1979 with no end year, and the 75 HP is the only one with a closed range, 1979 through 1988.
The title of the original listing also names the 45, 50 and 55 HP, but the fitment table on the listing does not. If your engine is a 45, 50 or 55 HP, send us the model and the serial number before you order rather than buying on the horsepower alone.
Impeller Dimensions
| Measurement | Value |

| Shaft diameter | 19.1 mm (0.75 in) |

| Hub | Brass |
| Material | Neoprene rubber with brass hub |
These are the dimensions given on the listing for this kit, in both millimetres and inches. The impeller has to sit in a bored housing with no more than a light clearance, and the bore has to sit on the shaft without rocking, so check the old impeller and the housing before ordering if the pump has been apart before.
