Water pump impeller with drive pin for the Suzuki DF2.5 and the Evinrude and Johnson 2.5 HP four stroke, the six vane impeller used on these small portable outboards. It replaces Suzuki 17461-97JM0, 17461-97J00, 17461-97J10 and 17461-97JL0 and Evinrude Johnson 5037429, it measures 33.5 mm overall diameter by 14.4 mm high on a 10.2 mm hub, and it ships as one impeller with its pin at 16 g.
This is the impeller for the small four stroke portables, so the pump is small and the impeller is driven by a pin through the hub rather than by a key or a spline. The pin is the part that gets lost during a service, and an impeller fitted without one turns on the shaft instead of with it.
On a 2.5 HP engine the water pump has very little margin. A DF2.5 pushing a tender or an inflatable spends most of its life at low speed, where a worn impeller delivers the least water, and these engines have no temperature gauge to warn the owner. The first sign is usually a weak tell tale or steam, by which point the impeller has been worn for a while.
Because the engine is small, the whole lower unit comes off in minutes and the pump is a bench job. That makes the impeller a yearly service part rather than something to wait on: the cost of the part against the cost of a cooked powerhead on a portable does not need much thought.
Fitment covers the Suzuki DF2.5 four stroke from 2003 onwards and the Evinrude and Johnson 2.5 HP four stroke versions of the same engine from 2006 to 2017. The two brands use the same powerhead, so the same impeller fits both, but check that the engine is a four stroke DF2.5 and not one of the two stroke 2.5 HP models, which use a different pump.
