Product Overview

Water pump repair kit, a complete pump service part for Johnson and Evinrude V4 and V6 two-stroke outboards from 65 HP to 300 HP (65-300 HP), supplied as 18 components with a net weight of 743 g. It replaces 0435929, 0777802 and 5001595, crosses to Sierra 18-3315-2, Mallory 9-48200 and GLM 12000, and contains the impeller 5001593, the housing 435959 / 5007968 and the cup and plate assembly 435027. Dispatched from our Germany local warehouse.

This is the pump for the large gearcase looper engines, the V4 and V6 motors that push a 6 m glass boat. On a V6 the pump moves a large volume of water and the impeller is a big, stiff part, so a vane that has taken a set loses delivery quickly and the temperature climb at trolling speed is a matter of minutes rather than hours.

The kit covers the whole pump, not the rubber alone. The stainless cup and the housing wear as a pair, and a new impeller run in a grooved housing will not hold pressure at high speed. It also carries the 3 grommets, the 3 O-rings and the seals that a partial rebuild usually misses, which is the usual reason a pump still weeps after being put back together.

Cold Water, Short Season and Lay Up

What the Owner Finds What It Means What to Do
Motor stored ashore from October to April Blades take a set over the lay up Fit the kit before the first launch
Water temperature under 10 C in spring Cold water makes a tired blade brittle Do not push the motor hard on the first trip
Boat kept on a berth in the Baltic Brackish water, less salt but more silt Flush the pump at the end of the season
Tell tale weak on the first run of the year Impeller set, or a blocked tube Check the tube, then the impeller
Oil looks milky after the winter Gearcase seal and pump grommets Renew the seals while the pump is off
Bolt heads rusted solid on the housing They twist off during removal Six new stainless bolts are in the kit

Fitting Notes

Step Action
1 Check the engine model and serial, the 65-300 HP range covers both V4 and V6 gearcases and the pump differs
2 Compare the old housing with 435959 or 5007968, a different housing means a different kit
3 Drain the gearcase and note the blade direction as the housing comes off
4 Inspect the driveshaft splines and the gearcase seal, water in the gear oil usually starts here
5 Lubricate the impeller with glycerine and turn the shaft clockwise as the housing goes down
6 Fit the new grommets and O-rings from the kit, a reused grommet is the usual cause of a pump that will not prime
7 Torque the bolts evenly in a cross pattern, a distorted housing will not hold pressure
8 Run the engine on muffs and confirm a strong telltale before the boat goes in the water
