Thermostat kit rated at 130°F (54°C) for Chrysler, Force, Mercury and Mariner outboards from 25 HP to 55 HP, the stat that opens early enough to keep these older blocks from heat soaking. It covers Chrysler and Force F97068, F97068-1 and F97068-2 and the Mercury 895338, crosses to Sierra 18-3556 and GLM 13200, and comes in a 150 mm x 180 mm x 50 mm bag (5.91 in x 7.09 in x 1.97 in) at 38 g.
A 130°F stat is the cool running one. These motors were built for raw water cooling with no closed circuit, so the thermostat is only there to bring the block up to temperature quickly and then stay out of the way. A stat that sticks closed will cook a motor in minutes.
The same 130°F element is sold under two families of part numbers because Chrysler and Force carried one number and Mercury carried another on the same 30 and 40 HP blocks after the take over. Both are listed below.
The kit includes the thermostat and the seals that go with it, so the housing can be closed up in one go rather than waiting on a second order.
