143 °F / 62 °C thermostat for Johnson and Evinrude outboards from 60 HP to 300 HP, replacing 0329766, 0394409, 0434137 and 0765580, and crossing to Sierra 18-3500 and GLM 13170. One thermostat is supplied.
This is the thermostat used in the V4 and V8 gearcase cooled motors, the loopcharged and crossflow blocks from the 1980s and early 1990s. Sixty two degrees Celsius is a cold rating; these motors are meant to run cool and a hotter thermostat will not improve them.
A thermostat stuck open makes the motor run cold, foul plugs and drink fuel. Stuck shut, it cooks the powerhead. If the head is hot to touch within two minutes on muffs and the telltale is weak, stop and check the thermostat and the impeller together.

- Check the number on the old thermostat, the four stroke motors use a different rating
- Check the housing for corrosion pitting where the thermostat seats
- Check the impeller at the same service, a thermostat is often changed because the impeller failed
- Fit the thermostat the right way round, the spring end goes toward the hot side of the housing
- Run on muffs and watch the head temperature rise and then hold steady
- Check the telltale and recheck for leaks around the cover after the first run
