Product Overview
Two E rings, 2 x per pack, for the MerCruiser Alpha One Gen 2 sterndrive and the Quicksilver Alpha One. They are the small retaining clips that sit in the shaft groove and hold the assembly in place, and the pack covers both sides of a rebuild.
An E ring is a one-use part. Once it has been levered out of its groove it will not seat again properly, so a rebuild that reuses the old one ends with a shaft that walks and a gearcase that has to come apart a second time. Keep a pack on the shelf before you start.
It fits the Alpha One Gen 2 covered by serial ranges from the 1991 to 1995 batch through to 1998 and later, and the equivalent Quicksilver Alpha One. Check the serial on the transom plate against the table below before ordering.

- Check the serial number on the transom plate against the ranges above
- Check whether the old ring came out bent, they deform as they are levered off the shaft
- Check the groove in the shaft for wear before fitting, a rounded groove will let the ring walk
- Fit the new ring with pliers that grip the flat side, not the open end
- Confirm the ring is fully seated in the groove and spins freely before closing the housing
- Keep the spare ring in the boat, they are easy to lose over a bilge floor
