Product Overview
Water pump impeller kit for Mercury 4, 4.5, 6, 7.5 and 9.8 HP outboards, supplied as one service kit with the housing, not just the rubber. It replaces Mercury 46-70941A3 and Sierra 18-3446 and ships at 154 g in a 14 x 12 x 6 cm (5.5 x 4.7 x 2.4 in) carton. Stocked in our United States local warehouse.
The kit is the full pump: impeller, face plate, drive key, base and housing, plus three O-rings. Renewing the whole unit matters on these small motors because the housing and the face plate wear together with the rubber. A new impeller dropped into a scored housing still loses pressure, and the tell-tale stays weak.
The impeller insert measures 11.6 mm (0.456 in), which is the quickest way to separate this kit from the larger Mercury pumps when the engine plate is unclear. On the 4 HP single, the serial ranges below decide it.
These are the motors that run on shallow lakes and rivers, where sand and silt are pulled through the pump every trip. Silt acts like grinding paste between the vanes and the housing, so the pump on a lake boat works harder than the hours would suggest. Checking the tell-tale at idle, on muffs, before every trip, catches most of it.
