Product Overview

Power trim bushing set, a service part for MerCruiser Alpha One Gen.II and Bravo XR transom plates, supplied as 4 bushings in a 150 mm x 180 mm x 30 mm (5.9 x 7.1 x 1.2 in) box. They replace MerCruiser 23-815950Q01, 23-8159501, 23-815950 and 8M0214952, and cross to Sierra 18-2341, Sierra 18-2341-1, Mallory 9-77002, Mallory 77002 and 9-77002-20. Shipped from our Germany local warehouse.

The four bushings carry the trim rams in the transom plate. Wear here does not produce a leak or a noise at first: the drive simply starts moving on mounts that should hold it, so the leg slaps under acceleration and the trim gauge loses its reference.

In Germany the season has a shape that makes this worse than the hours suggest. The boat sits on the hard for six months with the drive either supported or, too often, hanging on its own weight with the rams disconnected. Six months of that loads bushings that are already worn, and spring arrives with slack that was not there in October.

The set is four because all four carry the drive. Replacing the two that look worst leaves the other two taking the whole load, and the slack is back before the season ends.

Fitting Notes

Step Action
1 Check the drive serial number, Alpha One Gen.II from 1991 and the Bravo XR family 1998 to 2009
2 Support the drive on a stand before pulling the rams, the leg will drop once the upper mount is free
3 Disconnect the rams and cap the hydraulic fittings so dirt stays out
4 Press the old bushings out squarely, they are a light press fit
5 Clean the bores, check for oval wear and corrosion pitting
6 Grease the new bushings with marine grease before pressing them in
7 Refit the rams and torque the mount bolts to the manual figure
8 Cycle the trim through its full travel and check for slack at the transom plate
