Zinc anode kit for Yanmar marine diesels, 5 pieces in total: 1 intercooler anode with a 1/2 in NPT thread and a 2 in body, plus 4 heat exchanger and oil cooler anodes with a 3/8 in NPT thread and a 1-1/4 in body, 389 g (13.7 oz) boxed at 150 x 180 x 10 mm. The numbers are 119574-18790 for the intercooler and 119574-44150 for the four smaller pieces, and the kit covers the 6LY range except the 6LY3, the 6LP and 6LPA series and part of the 4LHA range. One engine carries five anode positions, not one, and they do not waste at the same rate. The intercooler zinc usually goes first because it sits in the warmest, fastest moving water, while the two in the oil cooler tend to be forgotten until the cooler bundle is already pitted.
In Germany the choice of anode metal matters more than in the open sea. North Sea and Baltic berths sit between roughly 1.8 and 3.5 percent salinity, and a zinc anode in brackish water passivates rather than protecting, which is the reason some insurers and engine agents specify aluminium for Baltic use.
