Oil pressure sender for MerCruiser, Volvo Penta and OMC petrol engines, replacing 8M0068784, 34623, 815425T, 90806 and 3857532, and crossing to Sierra 18-5899. It is supplied as 1 x sender, a direct screw-in replacement for the original unit.

The sender has a 1/8 in NPT thread, a 10-32 stud terminal and an 80 psi range, so it works with the standard electric oil pressure gauge on these engines. Check the range before ordering: a sender matched to the wrong gauge reads full scale or reads nothing, which is worse than a dead gauge because you lose the warning entirely.

When a sender fails the gauge usually drops to zero at idle and climbs back when you rev, or it sits pinned at the top. The engine is normally fine, but you cannot tell that from the helm, so stop and check with a mechanical gauge before running on.

• Check the old sender against 8M0068784 or 815425T, the single terminal and two terminal versions differ
• Confirm the gauge is an 80 psi electric gauge, not a 100 psi or a mechanical one
• Test the old sender with the wire earthed before replacing it, the fault is often the wire not the sender
• Use thread sealant on the NPT thread, but keep it off the first two threads so it does not block the oilway
• Do not overtighten into a brass or alloy housing, NPT seals on the thread taper
• Start the engine and confirm the gauge moves smoothly from cold to hot before trusting it
