Product Overview
Belt tension pulley for Volvo Penta KAD, KAMD, TAMD and D series marine diesels, the 95 mm idler that tensions the compressor and circulating pump belt. It replaces Volvo Penta 3582324, it is a bolt in the centre wheel that mounts on the original bracket, and it ships as one pulley at 359 g.
The pulley carries the belt between the crank, the circulating pump and the compressor, so it turns constantly whenever the engine runs and takes the belt load through two bearings. When the bearing starts to go, the first sign is usually a chirp or a squeal at idle that goes away as the revs rise, followed by belt dust around the front of the engine and a belt that will no longer hold tension.
Left alone, a seized tensioner will wear the belt edge and can throw it, which on these engines takes the circulating pump and the compressor with it. Replacing the pulley at the first noise is a cheap job against a belt failure at sea.
This is a direct replacement: the same 95 mm diameter, the same centre bolt and the same offset, so the original belt goes straight back on. Check the belt itself while the pulley is off, since a belt that has been running against a dry bearing is usually worn on one edge.
