Product Overview
Marine ignition key switch part for Mercury two cylinder outboards from 9.9 HP to 30 HP, replacing 87-17009A5 and 87-17009A2 and crossing to Sierra MP41070-2. It is supplied as 1 x switch with 2 x keys.
The switch fits a 7/8 inch (22.2 mm) dash hole and takes a panel up to 5/8 inch (15.9 mm) thick, with the push-to-choke function that these Mercury two strokes need for a cold start. It also fits the Mercury Amanzi 320 and 280 Hypalon RIB models built 2004 to 2006, and the Remote Control-4000 side mount box from 1994 onwards.
The key switch is usually the last thing checked and the first thing at fault when a motor will not crank or will not shut off. Two keys are included because a switch bought without a spare key means a second order the first time one is lost over the side.

Before You Buy
- Check the dash hole is 7/8 inch and the panel is no more than 5/8 inch thick
- Match the old switch against 87-17009A5, the three cylinder switch has a different plug
- Label the wires before removal, the terminals are not interchangeable once the harness is loose
- Check the harness plug for corrosion, a green terminal will act like a failed switch
- Check the neutral safety switch in the control box if the motor will not crank with the new switch
- Test the kill circuit before launch, a switch that will not shut the motor off is a safety fault
