Product Overview
Carburetor assembly, the complete bolt on replacement part for Tohatsu and Nissan two stroke outboards at 9.9 HP, 15 HP and 18 HP. It replaces 3G2-03100-1, 3G2-03100-2, 3G2-03100-3 and 3G2-03100-4, and one carburetor is supplied ready to fit and adjust. Shipped from our Australia local warehouse.
The four suffixes are revisions of the same body, so any of them can be replaced with this one. The carburetor is jetted for the 9.9, 15 and 18 HP versions of the same block, which is why one part covers all three ratings.
It fits the M9.9D2, M15D2 and M18E2 Tohatsu models and the NS9.9D2, NS15D2 and NS18E2 Nissan models. The same body is catalogued by Mercury as 803687A1 and 803687T01 for the Mercury two cylinder 9.9 HP, 15 HP and 18 HP outboards, so that badge is covered too. Motors built before 1996 use a different carburetor, so check the number cast on your old unit before ordering.

Complete Replacement or Rebuild
| Situation | Rebuild Cost in Time | This Assembly |
|---|---|---|
| Motor stored for years with fuel in it | Soak, blow through, reset, retry | Bolt on, set the idle, done |
| Throttle shaft worn and leaking air | Shaft and bushing work, rarely economic | New body with a fresh shaft |
| Corroded bowl and seized screws | Drill out, chase threads, new bowl | New bowl and screws included |
| Jets blocked by dried fuel | Cleanable, but the passages behind them often are not | All passages new |
| One revision number not available | Hunt a used body | Any of the four suffixes is covered |
| Fuel dripping from the bowl on a salt water motor | Patch repair usually does not hold | Complete unit, no patch |
Salt Water and the Alloy Body
| Australian Use | Effect on the Carburetor | What To Do |
|---|---|---|
| Salt water boat, motor tilted up after use | Salt spray dries on the alloy | Fresh water flush after every trip |
| Trailer boat, no cover | Rain sits in the cowl and corrodes the bowl | Keep the cowl sealed and drain the bowl |
| Tropical north, high humidity | White corrosion on the alloy and steel screws | Check the bowl screws each season |
| Long runs offshore | Vibration works the mounting nuts loose | Check the flange nuts at every service |
| Motor run at trolling speed for hours | Carbon builds in the throat and on the throttle plate | Run it up to planing speed regularly |
| Motor left in the weather over winter | Bowl gasket hardens and weeps | Drain the bowl before storage |
Fuel, Ethanol and Storage
| Fuel Practice | Why It Matters | What To Do |
|---|---|---|
| E10 left in the bowl for months | Ethanol absorbs water and attacks soft parts | Drain the bowl, run the motor dry |
| Stale fuel from last season | Varnish blocks the idle passages | Fresh fuel every season, no old mix |
| Water in the tank below 10 °C | Water drops out and sits under the fuel | Drain the tank, check the filter |
| Fuel left in the carburetor over summer | The bowl turns to varnish | Run the motor dry before storage |
| Dirty fuel from a jerry can | Grit reaches the needle and seat | Filter the fuel and clean the tank |
| Two stroke oil mixed wrong | Plugs foul and the motor loads up | Mix to the manual ratio, measure it |
Fitting and Adjustment
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the number cast on the old carburetor, pre 1996 motors use a different unit |
| 2 | Check the flange gasket and the inlet hose for cracks before fitting |
| 3 | Drain the fuel line and remove the old unit with the throttle link still attached |
| 4 | Transfer the throttle and choke links to the new body, noting the hole positions |
| 5 | Fit the new gasket dry and tighten the flange nuts evenly |
| 6 | Set the idle mixture screw to the manual base setting before starting |
| 7 | Start on muffs and set the idle in gear on the water, not on the trailer |
| 8 | Check for fuel weeps at the bowl and the inlet after the first run |
