Product Overview

Carburetor repair kit for Yamaha 9.9 HP and 15 HP two-stroke outboards built from 1996 to 2006 and later, supplied as 1 overhaul kit weighing 71 g in a 12 x 10 x 3 cm (4.7 x 3.9 x 1.2 in) pack. It replaces Yamaha 63V-W0093-00-00 and crosses to Sierra 18-7058. The kit renews the soft parts of one carburettor: gaskets, O-rings, needle valve and seat. Shipped from our Germany local warehouse.

The 9.9 and 15 HP two-stroke was one of the most common motors on German and Dutch inland water, and most of them are still on the water. Their carburettors are simple, which makes them easy to rebuild and equally easy to leave half done.

Since E10 arrived at German forecourts, the bowl gasket and the needle seat are the two parts that fail first. Ethanol softens older gasket material and holds water against the aluminium, so a motor that sat with E10 in the bowl over winter often needs a kit in spring even though it ran perfectly in October.

Ethanol and the Bowl Gasket

What Changed What It Does to the Carburettor What to Do
E10 fuel left in the bowl over winter Bowl gasket swells and weeps Fit the kit, drain the bowl before lay up
Water absorbed by ethanol Needle and seat corrode, fuel level drifts New needle and seat from the kit
Old fuel mix with two-stroke oil Oil separates and gums the passages Fresh mix, then set the mixture screw
Motor run dry at the end of the season Gaskets stay dry rather than soaked The kit lasts years instead of one
Bowl screws overtightened Gasket distorted, leak returns Even pressure, hand tight plus a nip
Carburettor stripped twice before Worn throttle shaft, not fixable with seals Check shaft play before buying a kit

Fitting Notes

Step Action
1 Match the model code on the engine plate against the table, 9.9 and 15 HP share the carburettor family
2 Count and write down the mixture screw turns out before it comes apart, it saves a lot of adjusting later
3 Drain the bowl and keep the parts in a tray, the needle and seat are small and easy to lose
4 Soak the body and blow out every passage with air, a kit will not fix a blocked jet
5 Set the float height to the book figure, an incorrect level causes both flooding and starvation
6 Fit all the O-rings from the kit, an old one left in place is the usual cause of a persistent weep
7 Start on muffs, set the idle, then recheck on the water in gear
8 Before winter, close the fuel tap and run the motor until the bowl is empty
