Engine circulating water pump with gasket for Mercruiser, Volvo Penta and OMC petrol engines built on the GM 2.5 L (153 cid) and 3.0 L (181 cid) inline four and the 4.1 L (250 cid) inline six, replacing 3854017, 65142A1, 3858340 and 984360 and crossing to Sierra 18-3575. One pump and one gasket are supplied.
This is the closed cooling pump on the front of the engine, driven by the belt, not the raw water pump in the drive. It moves coolant around the block and the manifold, and the difference matters when ordering: a leaking raw water pump floods the bilge, a failing circulating pump shows as a climbing temperature gauge and a weep from the front seal.
It covers 2.5 L and 3.0 L engines from 1967 onwards and the 4.1 L inline six, across all three brands that used the same GM block. The pump has a brass impeller, which is the part that lasts in raw water cooled engines where the coolant is brackish and the internals are exposed to it.

Before You Buy
- Check whether the leak is at the front cover pump (this part) or the raw water pump on the drive, they are different items
- Match the old pump against 3854017 or 65142A1, the pulley bolt pattern differs between the 2.5 L and the 4.1 L
- Check the pulley and the belt while the pump is off, a worn belt takes a new pump bearing out
- Check the front cover gasket face for corrosion, a pitted face leaks past a new gasket
- Fill with the correct coolant mix and bleed the system before the first run
- Watch the temperature gauge and check for a weep at the new pump after the first hour of running
