2 Pack Exhaust Elbow Riser Gaskets 8356908 856039 857618 803356 for Volvo Penta V6 V8 4.3 5.0 5.7 8.1 L AQ 3-3/4 inch — Germany Local Warehouse
Product Overview
2 pack of exhaust elbow and riser gaskets for Volvo Penta V6 and V8 petrol engines with the 3-3/4 inch exhaust outlet, replacing 8356908, 856039 and 857618 and crossing to Quicksilver 803356. The pack covers the 4.3 L V6, the 5.0 L, 5.7 L and 8.1 L V8 in the AQ, BB, DP, SP and MS series from 1970 onwards. Shipped from our Germany local warehouse.
Both gaskets are in the pack because the job needs both. One seals the manifold to riser face, the other seals the riser to elbow face, and both open up the moment the riser is lifted.
A compressed gasket does not seal a second time, so the pair is the quantity that finishes the job rather than half of it.

What's Included
| Component | Qty |
|---|---|
| Exhaust elbow and riser gasket, 3-3/4 inch | 2 |
Why the Pack Holds Two
| Joint | Gasket Used | If It Leaks |
|---|---|---|
| Manifold to riser | One of the two in this pack | Water into the engine bay, rust on the starter |
| Riser to elbow | The second gasket in this pack | Exhaust leak in the bilge, fumes at low speed |
| Both joints opened for inspection | Both gaskets used | Reusing one leaves a wet joint |
| Only the top joint opened | One gasket used, one spare | Keep the spare dry, it will be needed next season |
| Riser replaced | Both gaskets plus a new riser | Never fit a new riser on an old gasket |
| Elbow replaced | Both gaskets plus a new elbow | Check the manifold face while it is apart |
What a Riser Looks Like After Ten Years
| What You See | What It Means | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Scale on the gasket face | Normal for a raw water engine | Clean back to bare metal before fitting |
| Pitted face, gasket line eaten in | Salt or long storage with water in the riser | Machine or replace the riser |
| Rust trail down the riser | Joint has been weeping for a while | New gaskets, check both faces for flat |
| White crust inside the elbow | Fresh water scale, common on German lakes | Clean the passages, check the flow |
| Black soot at the top joint | Exhaust leak past the gasket | New gaskets, check the fasteners |
| Manifold face cracked at a bolt hole | Corrosion from the water jacket | Replace the manifold, a gasket will not hold |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the exhaust outlet is 3-3/4 inch, 8356908 and 856039 only fit the 3-3/4 inch joint |
| 2 | Match the old gasket against 8356908, 856039, 857618 or Quicksilver 803356 before ordering |
| 3 | Clean both faces back to bare metal, scale left on the flange is what blows a new gasket |
| 4 | Check both faces for flat, a warped face needs machining rather than a thicker gasket |
| 5 | Fit one gasket to the manifold joint and one to the elbow joint, dry, no sealant |
| 6 | Torque evenly in a cross pattern and bring the fasteners up in stages, both 856039 and 857618 need the second pass |
| 7 | Recheck the torque after the first heat cycle, the joint settles when it cools |
| 8 | Look for a rust trail at both joints after the first trip |
