Exhaust Intake Manifold Gasket 1266796 1378879 463225 for Volvo Penta AQ125 AQ145 131 151
Exhaust Intake Manifold Gasket 1266796 1378879 463225 for Volvo Penta AQ125 AQ145 131 151
Product Overview
Exhaust and intake manifold gasket for the Volvo Penta AQ125, AQ145, 131 and 151 four cylinder marine engines, the 2.1 to 2.5 L petrol fours. It replaces Volvo Penta 1266796, 1378879 and 463225, and it is the one piece gasket that seals the combined intake and exhaust manifold against the cylinder head.
On these AQ engines the inlet and exhaust runners share a single flange, so one gasket covers both sides. A blown gasket shows up as an exhaust tick at idle, a smell of exhaust in the engine bay, or coolant weeping down the side of the block, depending on where the failure starts.
The fitment covers AQ125A and AQ125B, AQ145A and AQ145B, 131A, 151A and 151B, and the related 120B and 140A engines, the Volvo Penta petrol fours from the late 1970s and 1980s that are still common in small cruisers and day boats.

Signs the Manifold Gasket Has Gone
| What You Find | What It Means | What To Do |
|---|---|---|
| Ticking at idle that fades with revs | Exhaust blowing past the gasket | Renew the gasket, check the flange for warp |
| Black soot track on the block | Leak path is visible | Clean and check the faces before fitting |
| Exhaust smell in the engine bay | Leak under the cover | Renew and check the manifold studs |
| Coolant weeping down the block | Corrosion under the gasket | Check the head face, renew the gasket |
| Warped manifold flange | Overheat or a seized stud | Machine or renew the manifold first |
| Snapped manifold stud | Rusted stud in an iron head | Drill and helicoil before refitting |
Old AQ Petrol Engines and Heat
| How the Engine Is Used | Effect on the Gasket | What To Do |
|---|---|---|
| Raw water cooling, salt water | Corrosion creeps under the gasket | Check the faces at every manifold service |
| Fresh water cooling conversion | Hotter head face, same gasket | Retorque after the first heat cycle |
| Long periods laid up | Gasket dries and sticks | Renew rather than reuse after a lay up |
| Overheat from a blocked intake | Head and manifold faces distort | Check both faces before fitting |
| Petrol engine idled a lot | Heat soak in the engine bay | Check the exhaust side first |
| Boat used in the sea only | Studs seize in the head | Soak the studs before undoing them |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the number on the old gasket, 1266796, 1378879 and 463225 are the same part |
| 2 | Confirm the engine model, this covers AQ125, AQ145, 131 and 151 plus 120B and 140A |
| 3 | Soak the manifold nuts with penetrant and undo them evenly, the studs seize |
| 4 | Scrape both faces clean and check them with a straight edge for warp |
| 5 | Fit the gasket dry, no sealant on a composite gasket |
| 6 | Torque the nuts in sequence from the centre outwards |
| 7 | Run the engine to temperature, let it cool and retorque once |
| 8 | Check for soot tracks and coolant weeping after the first run |
