Product Overview
Exhaust mixing elbow part for Volvo Penta D1, D2 and MD series marine diesel engines from 13 HP to 40 HP, replacing 861906 and 21190094. The casting is 23 cm long with a 90 mm inlet flange and a 51 mm hose outlet, and it carries the raw water injection point that mixes cooling water into the exhaust gas before the mixture leaves the engine. The elbow is a consumable, not a lifetime part. Hot exhaust gas on one side and salt or raw water on the other corrodes the wall from both faces, and the water injection nipple is the first place to block. A partially blocked elbow raises exhaust back pressure, which shows up as lost top end power long before anything looks wrong from the outside.
Look for steam in the exhaust, a rust stain running down the outside of the elbow, a water leak at the joint to the manifold, or a temperature rise at cruise. Any of those means the elbow comes off and gets inspected, not topped up with sealant. Renew the gaskets at both joints and check the nipple bore is clear before refitting.
