Product Overview
Flexible impeller for the Caterpillar, Cummins, John Deere and Sherwood raw water pumps, the 12 blade neoprene impeller that moves the cooling water through a marine engine. It replaces Sherwood 18000K, Caterpillar 2820683, Cummins 4019403 and John Deere RE524511, it measures 95 mm across and 102 mm wide with a 25 mm shaft bore, and it ships as one impeller in a 175 mm x 110 mm x 100 mm box at 914 g.
This is the large impeller: 95 mm outside diameter, 102 mm wide, twelve blades, spline drive at 30 degrees, neoprene body with a brass insert. The size is what makes it a big engine part, because the pump it sits in has to move cooling water for an engine measured in litres, not horsepower.
The blades flex as the impeller turns and sweep water around the pump body. Over time the rubber takes a set in one position, the blade tips wear down and the gaps open up. A set impeller still looks whole and still turns, but it moves less water every season.
On a marine diesel the pump is usually driven off the front of the engine and the impeller is the part that fails first. A weak impeller shows as a hot engine under load, a heat exchanger that runs dry at the top, or an exhaust elbow that starts to overheat. Left until the blades break, the pieces go into the heat exchanger and the oil cooler and block the core.
Fitment covers the Caterpillar 3176, 3196, C12, 3406E and 3406C water pumps, the Cummins QSM11 pump 4929178, the John Deere pump RE530689, RE524510, G2910X and RE536016, and the Sherwood 18000 and 18000K pumps. Check the pump number and the number on the old impeller before ordering.
