Carburetor Assy 16100-ZW6-716 16100-ZW6-717 for Honda BF2 BF2D 2 HP Outboard 2002-2006 — Australia Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Carburetor assembly for the Honda BF2D 2 HP four-stroke outboard, complete and ready to bolt on, the fuel system part that sits behind the inline filter. It replaces 16100-ZW6-716, 16100-ZW6-717 and 16100-ZW6-G01, measures 110 x 195 x 135 mm (4.3 x 7.7 x 5.3 in) boxed, and covers the BF2D2 through BF2D6 built from 2002 to 2006. Held in our Australia local warehouse.
On a tender or a small tinny this motor runs at one throttle setting for most of its life, which is exactly the duty that lets fuel gum settle in the pilot circuit. The first sign is a motor that needs choke to keep running, then one that dies as soon as it goes into gear.
Cleaning works once. By the second or third season the passages have been rodded out and the throttle shaft has play in it, and a complete assembly is the cheaper answer than another rebuild that lasts a month.

Why the BF2 Carburettor Blocks
| Symptom | Cause | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Runs only with the choke part out | Pilot jet gummed from stale fuel | New assembly, then fresh fuel |
| Dies the moment it goes into gear | Idle circuit starved, no reserve | New assembly plus a filter |
| Hunts at idle, never settles | Air leaking past a worn throttle shaft | Rebuilding will not fix shaft play |
| Black plug, fuel smell in the cowl | Needle and seat leaking past dirt | New assembly and a new inline filter |
| Starts cold then floods warm | Float level set by a tired seat | Complete assembly is the reliable fix |
| Cleaned twice, blocked again within a month | Tank sediment still feeding the bowl | Clean the tank, then fit the assembly |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Read the serial prefix on the engine bracket, BZBF, BZBK, BZBL and BZBJ all take this carburettor across 2002 to 2006 |
| 2 | Drain the tank and flush it before the new unit goes on, sediment is what killed the old one |
| 3 | Fit a new inline fuel filter at the same time, a cheap filter protects an expensive assembly |
| 4 | Check the fuel hose for cracks and the primer bulb for stiffness, air leaks mimic a blocked jet |
| 5 | Set the idle mixture screw one and a half turns out as a baseline |
| 6 | Prime the bowl and check the drain screw for weeping before starting |
| 7 | Run the motor in a tank or on the boat in gear in water, then set idle speed |
| 8 | After the last trip of the season, run the carburettor dry, that is what stops the gum forming |
