Manual Drain Water Distribution Housing 863631T1 for Mercury MerCruiser 4.3L 5.0L 5.7L 6.2L MPI Inboard — United States Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Manual drain water distribution housing for Mercury MerCruiser inboard and sterndrive engines, the part that replaces 863631T1 and 863802T2. It fits the 4.3 L 262 CID, 5.0 L 305 CID, 5.7 L 350 CID and 6.2 L 377 CID MPI motors, including the 350 MAG MPI, 377 MAG MPI and 383 MAG Stroker. Shipped from our United States local warehouse.
The housing is a small manifold bolted to the engine with a valve on each drain point. Instead of pulling brass plugs on the block and both manifolds at the end of the season, you open three or four blue handles, let the water run out, and close them again. On a boat used in salt or brackish water that turns winterising from a twenty minute job into a two minute one.
These housings fail at the valves rather than the body. The plastic handles crack, the valve seats scale up, and the first sign is usually a slow drip onto the engine after a run rather than a burst. Once a valve will not close completely, the engine cannot hold its coolant and the block drains itself into the bilge.

Winterising with Manual Drains
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Run the engine on flush muffs with fresh water first |
| 2 | Switch off and let the engine cool before opening anything |
| 3 | Open every valve on the housing and let the block drain |
| 4 | Open the manifold drains separately, they hold water of their own |
| 5 | Probe each drain with a wire, scale and sand block them |
| 6 | Leave the valves open through the freeze, or fill with antifreeze |
| 7 | Close the valves in spring before the engine is started |
Signs the Housing Needs Replacing
| Symptom | What It Points To |
|---|---|
| Drip from a valve after a run | Valve seat scaled or the handle cracked |
| A valve will not turn | Handle seized on the spindle |
| Water in the bilge after winterising | Drain left open, or a valve passing |
| Coolant will not stay in the engine | Valve not seating, block draining itself |
| Cracks around the hose spigots | Housing overheated or frozen with water inside |
