Inline Fuel Filter 16910-ZV4-015 16910-ZV4-005 for Honda BF8 BF15 BF30 BF90 Outboard Sierra 18-8226 — United Kingdom Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Inline fuel filter, the small in-line element for Honda four-stroke outboards from 8 HP to 90 HP (8 HP to 90 HP covering the BF8 through the BF90), supplied as 1 filter. It replaces Honda 16910-ZV4-015 and 16910-ZV4-005, crosses to Sierra 18-8226 and Mallory 9-37957, and fits the 9.9HP and 15HP models in the fitment table as well as the larger engines. Dispatched from our United Kingdom local warehouse.
This is the filter that sits in the fuel hose between the tank primer bulb and the engine cowl, not the water separating filter some boats also carry. It catches rust, tank debris and the gum that forms in stale petrol.
On the carburetted BF8, BF9.9, BF15 and BF20 it is the first part to change when the motor surges at idle or leans out under load. A restricted filter leans a four-stroke out at exactly the wrong moment, and on a two cylinder engine that is how a burnt valve begins.

Old Petrol and the Start of the Season
| What the Owner Sees | What Is Happening | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Motor surges at idle after the winter | Filter partly blocked by gum from stale fuel | Change the filter before tuning anything |
| Filter body looks brown inside | Rust and tank debris caught in the element | New filter and check the tank for water |
| E10 fuel used all season | Ethanol holds moisture and loosens deposits | Change the filter annually, drain the bowl |
| Motor leans out at full throttle | Flow restricted, carburettor starved | Filter first, then check the pump |
| Air bubbles visible in the clear body | Air leak at the spigot or primer bulb | New clips, check the bulb for cracks |
| Fuel smell under the cowl | Weeping at the filter joints | New filter and new hose clips |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the old filter against 16910-ZV4-015 or 16910-ZV4-005, the earlier BF engines used a different body |
| 2 | Confirm the engine is a four-stroke, the two-stroke line takes a different inline filter |
| 3 | Note the flow direction arrow on the old filter and fit the new one the same way round |
| 4 | Pinch or clamp the fuel hose before you pull the filter, or petrol will run out of the line |
| 5 | Check the primer bulb for cracks while the line is open, an air leak feels like a blocked filter |
| 6 | Run the motor and check the filter body for weeping at both hose spigots before the boat goes out |
| 7 | Prime the line with the bulb until the filter body fills before starting |
| 8 | Write the date on the filter body, it is a service item that is easy to forget |
