Fuel Filter Element Gen 3 Cool Fuel 8M0093688 for MerCruiser Alpha Bravo 5.7 6.2 8.2
Fuel Filter Element Gen 3 Cool Fuel 8M0093688 for MerCruiser Alpha Bravo 5.7 6.2 8.2
Product Overview
Fuel filter element for the MerCruiser Gen 3 Cool Fuel module on Alpha and Bravo engines, the filter that sits inside the cool fuel canister and takes the water and dirt out of the fuel before it reaches the pump. It replaces MerCruiser 35-866171A01 and 8M0093688 and crosses to Sierra 18-7977, and it ships as one element in a 145 mm x 85 mm x 105 mm box at 114 g.
The Gen 3 Cool Fuel module is fitted to the MPI engines from 5.0 L up to the 8.2 L big block, and the element inside it is a service item: MerCruiser calls for it at the first service and then on the normal fuel filter interval. The module itself is cooled by raw water, which is why the filter is called a cool fuel filter, but the element is a plain fuel filter and it is the only part that gets changed.
A loaded element shows itself as a loss of top end first. The engine pulls cleanly up to about three quarters throttle and then runs out of fuel, and on an MPI engine that also means the fuel pump is working against a restriction it was not designed for. Water in the element is the other failure, and it usually arrives after a fill from a marina tank that has been sitting.
Changing the element is a short job on these engines: the canister is on the front of the engine and the element lifts out once the cap is off. Keep the old element until the new one is in, because it is worth looking at what came out of it.
Fitment covers the Bravo V8 engines in 5.0 L, 5.7 L and 6.2 L, the big block 496 and 8.2 L, the 520 and 540, and the MPI models from the 350 MAG through the 377 MAG, 383 MAG Stroker, 496 MAG and 496 H.O., including the Scorpion and TowSport variants listed with their serial number breaks in the table below. Check the engine serial number against the table before ordering.
