Fuel Pump 881862T1 881862T07 892874T 899106T 8M0141844 for Mercury Mariner 4 Stroke 25-60 HP Outboard
Product Overview
Fuel pump assembly for Mercury and Mariner four stroke outboards from 25 HP to 60 HP, the mechanical pump that lifts fuel from the line and feeds the carburettor float bowls. It replaces Mercury 881862T1, 881862T07, 892874T, 899106T and 8M0141844 and crosses to Sierra 18-8866, and it fits the 2002 and later non EFI motors in a 17.5 x 11 x 10 cm box.
This is the pump used on the carburettor four strokes, not the high pressure pump inside an EFI vapour separator. The two look nothing alike in the hand and are not interchangeable, so check the number on the old pump before ordering.
The pump body is aluminium with a rubber diaphragm driven by the camshaft, and it fails in the usual way: the diaphragm stiffens, the pump loses its stroke at high rpm and the motor leans out above 4000 rpm. A split diaphragm puts fuel into the crankcase and the oil level climbs, which is the point to stop using the motor.

Fuel Pump Failure Symptoms
| What You See | What It Means | What To Do |
|---|---|---|
| Motor leans out above 4000 rpm | Pump cannot keep up with demand | Test the pump pressure before ordering |
| Hard start when cold | Diaphragm tired, low pressure | Renew the pump |
| Fuel smell in the engine oil | Diaphragm leaking into the crankcase | Stop using the motor, renew the pump |
| Oil level rising between checks | Fuel getting past the pump | Renew the pump, change the oil |
| Motor floods at idle | Sticking valve inside the pump | Renew the pump |
| Same pump fails twice | Dirt from the tank | Clean the tank and fit a filter before the pump |
Carburettor and EFI Pumps
| Engine Layout | Pump Type | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Carburettor four stroke | Low pressure mechanical pump | This is the pump in this listing |
| EFI four stroke | High pressure pump in the vapour separator | Not this part, check the number |
| Carburettor pump on a fuel injected motor | Will not build rail pressure | Check the model before ordering |
| Remote or tiller | The same pump on both | Check the model code, not the badge |
| Motors run on ethanol fuel | Diaphragm hardens faster | Renew the filter and the pump together |
| Motor stored over winter | Diaphragm dries out | Run the motor before laying it up |
Fitting Notes

| 7 | Turn the key and check for leaks before starting |
| 8 | Run the motor and check pressure, then check the oil for fuel smell |
