Fuel Pump Assembly for Mercury Mariner 30-300 HP 2 Stroke Outboard 14360A78 14360A71 14360A43 — United Kingdom Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Fuel pump assembly for Mercury and Mariner 2-stroke outboards, a direct-fit mechanical pump covering 30 HP to 300 HP motors built between 1986 and 1993. It replaces 14360A78, 14360A71, 14360A73, 14360A50, 14360A43, 14360A41, 14360A27, 14360A24, 14360A16, 14360A15, 14360A14, 99357A4 and 8M0036779. Dispatched from our United Kingdom local warehouse.
The pump is driven by crankcase pulses and feeds three carburettor outlets, so it is not a generic low pressure pump you can swap from a car. Inside there is a diaphragm and two check valves, and when the diaphragm stiffens the pump still runs, still ticks over, and still lets the boat leave the mooring. The trouble starts at planing speed, where the float bowls drain faster than a tired pump can refill them.
British boats on swinging moorings see this more than most. Ethanol blended fuel sitting in the pump over winter attacks the diaphragm and the check valves, and the first run of spring is when a lean sneeze at idle turns into a cylinder that will not pull. A serial number check against the table below is the only reliable way to confirm the pump fits your motor.

Fuel Pump Symptoms
| Symptom | What It Points To |
|---|---|
| Lean sneeze or cough at idle | Diaphragm stiff, low delivery |
| Primer bulb will not stay hard | Inlet check valve passing |
| Power falls away at planing speed | Pump cannot refill the float bowls |
| Fuel weeping at the diaphragm seam | Diaphragm split, stop using the engine |
| Engine floods when idling | Outlet valve not seating |
| Runs on the bulb alone | Pump not pumping, check the pulse line first |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Disconnect the battery and relieve fuel pressure into a rag |
| 2 | Note which outlet feeds which carburettor before removing the hoses |
| 3 | Undo the two body bolts and lift the pump clear |
| 4 | Transfer the pulse line fitting from the old pump |
| 5 | Check the pulse line for cracks and the inlet screen for debris |
| 6 | Fit the pump with the original gasket face clean, torque to 60-84 in-lb |
| 7 | Reconnect the outlets in the original order and prime the bulb |
| 8 | Run the engine and confirm 3-7 psi at idle with no seepage |
