Product Overview
Fuel pump for Yamaha F25, F30, F40, F50 and F60 four-stroke outboards plus the T25, T50 and T60, and for the Mercury and Mariner 25 HP to 60 HP four-strokes, supplied as 1 pump weighing 399 g in a 9 x 10 x 15 cm pack. It replaces Yamaha 62Y-24410-04, 62Y-24410-03, 62Y-24410-02, 62Y-24410-01 and 62Y-24410-00, Mercury 826398A1, 826398A3 and 826398T3, and crosses to Sierra 18-35304. Dispatched from our United Kingdom local warehouse.
This is the electric lift pump that feeds the vapour separator on the four-stroke small block. The 25 to 60 HP engines were built for Yamaha and Mercury both, so the same pump carries a 62Y number and an 826398 number.
Because it is electric and sitting in a warm cowling, the first symptom is often a vapour lock on a hot restart rather than a flat failure. It also weakens gradually, which reads on the water as a motor that will not pull past 4,000 rpm with a full boat.

Lean Out at the Top End
| What the Owner Reports | First Check | Likely Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Will not pull past 4,000 rpm loaded | Fuel pressure at the rail under load | Weak pump, this one |
| Starts cold, flat when hot | Vapour lock or a hot pump | Pump and the cowl airflow around it |
| Stumbles then recovers when throttled back | Restricted filter or collapsing bulb | Filter and primer bulb before the pump |
| Whine from the cowling that was never there | Pump drawing air or running dry | Check line joints and the pickup in the tank |
| Hard start after sitting a week | Non return valve in the pump | New pump, no rebuild kit exists |
| Runs fine on muffs, fails on the water | Load only fault, pump volume too low | Pressure and volume test in the water |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Read the number on the old pump, 62Y-24410-04 and 826398A1 are the same unit under two badges |
| 2 | Check the model year against both tables, the four-stroke range changed in 2004 |
| 3 | Pinch the fuel line and keep a tray under the pump, the line holds fuel above the tank level |
| 4 | Renew the inline filter and the primer bulb at the same time, both cause an identical top end lean out |
| 5 | Fit new hose clips, a weeping joint draws air and the motor leans out again |
| 6 | Check the pump connector and the earth strap for green corrosion before the new pump goes in |
| 7 | Measure fuel pressure at the rail before and after, the number tells you whether the job is done |
| 8 | Run the boat under load in the water, hold full throttle and check for weeps and a steady top end |
