Product Overview
Lower shift cable kit, a direct replacement part for MerCruiser MC-I, R, MR, Alpha One and Alpha One Gen II sterndrives. The cable is 1530 mm (60.2 inch) long and the kit ships with a gasket kit and a bellows kit. It replaces MerCruiser 865436A02 and 865436A03 and the 19543 cable family.
The lower shift cable runs from the shift plate inside the boat, through the gimbal housing bellows, and down to the shift mechanism in the drive. It is the only thing that carries the gearshift through the transom, so when it stiffens the whole shift feel goes with it.
Most of these cables fail at the bellows end, where salt water gets past a perished boot and works along the inner cable. A cable that has been in service for years will also have worn its end fittings, which is why the kit includes the gaskets and the bellows rather than the bare cable.
The kit covers the whole MerCruiser sterndrive line from the MC-I through to the Alpha One Gen II. Check the drive model on the transom plate before ordering, because the cable length is fixed at 1530 mm (60.2 inch) and the later drives use a different routing.
