Inline Fuel Filter 35-879885Q for Mercury Mariner 40 50 60 75 90 115 HP 4 Stroke Verado 18-7718 — United Kingdom Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Inline fuel filter for Mercury and Mariner four-stroke outboards from 40 HP to 300 HP, supplied as 1 filter, shipping weight 80 g in a 145 mm x 85 mm x 105 mm (5.7 x 3.3 x 4.1 in) box. It replaces Mercury 35-879885Q, 35-879885T and 35-879885K, crossing to Sierra 18-7718, and it sits in the fuel line ahead of the engine as the first barrier for dirt and water. Dispatched from our United Kingdom local warehouse.
The 75-115 four-stroke 1.7 L takes this filter from serial 1B366823, and the 50 EFI from serial 1B905505. The same element also serves the Verado range from 135 HP to 300 HP.
Four-stroke outboards run a high pressure fuel system, and a partly loaded filter starves the injectors long before the motor refuses to start. The symptoms are easy to misread: a momentary cut at wide open throttle, a lean stumble coming out of a turn, or plugs that read pale on one bank only.

Cold, Wet and Stored Fuel
| What the Boat Does | What the Filter Sees | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Sits on a mooring through a damp winter | Condensation in a half-full tank | Change the filter at the start of the season |
| Ethanol blend left standing | Water drawn into the fuel, phase separation | Drain the tank, then fit a new filter |
| Refuels from cans at a club pontoon | Grit and rust from dirty containers | Change the filter after any suspect fuel |
| Long spells between trips | Sediment settles and moves on the first run | Change it before the first trip, not after |
| Twin engine boat | Both filters load at the same rate | Change both at the same time |
| Filter changed, problem remains | Restriction is in the tank pickup | Check the anti-siphon valve and pickup |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the serial number, the 75 to 115 HP four-strokes take this filter from serial 1B366823 and the 50 EFI from 1B905505 |
| 2 | Confirm the engine is a four-stroke, two-stroke Mercury and Mariner outboards use a different filter |
| 3 | Release the fuel pressure and catch the spill before opening the line |
| 4 | Note the flow direction arrow on the old filter and fit the new one the same way round |
| 5 | Check the hose ends and clips for cracking while the line is open |
| 6 | Prime the system before cranking |
| 7 | Run the engine and check both connections for weeps |
| 8 | Recheck after the first trip, a slight weep often shows up warm rather than cold |
