Oil Filter 35-822626Q04 35-822626Q2 for Mercury Mariner 40 50 60 HP 4-Stroke Outboard Sierra 18-7914 — United Kingdom Local Warehouse
Product Overview
Oil filter, a spin-on service part for Mercury and Mariner four-stroke outboards from 40HP to 60HP, and for the larger four-stroke models that use the same 822626 filter body, supplied as 1 filter with a shipping weight of 295 g. It replaces 35-822626Q04, 35-8M0065103 and 35-822626Q2, and crosses to Sierra 18-7914. Dispatched from our United Kingdom local warehouse.
The 40, 50 and 60 HP four-strokes are the engines most often bought with a boat and then serviced by the owner. They hold under 3 litres of oil and the filter accounts for part of that, so an old element keeps dirty oil circulating and makes the pump work against a blocked filter from cold.
The anti-drain back valve is what separates a usable filter from a cheap one on an outboard. On a tilted engine the filter drains overnight, and without the valve every start runs the bearings dry for a second or two. This filter has both the drain back valve and the bypass.

The Season Service and the Tilted Engine
| What the Owner Notices | What Is Happening | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Rattle for a second on the first start of the day | Oil drained back from a tilted engine | Renew the filter, the drain back valve is the fix |
| Oil light slow to go out | Dry start, element and galleries empty | Fill the new filter before fitting where possible |
| Oil leaks at the filter base after a service | Old gasket ring left on the mounting face | Wipe the face, one ring only |
| Filter will not come off next season | Fitted with a wrench | Hand tight, oil the ring |
| Oil still clean but filter overdue | Hours are not the only interval | Change at the season start, not only on hours |
| First service after break-in | Metal particles in the element | Change at 10 hours, then annually |
Fitting Notes
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Check the number on the old filter, 35-822626Q04 and 35-8M0065103 are the same filter and either number confirms fitment |
| 2 | Warm the engine before draining, cold oil leaves the sludge in the sump |
| 3 | Check the mounting face for the old gasket ring, two rings stacked is the usual oil leak after a service |
| 4 | Wipe the mounting face clean and oil the new filter gasket before it goes on |
| 5 | Turn the filter on by hand until the gasket touches, then three quarters of a turn, no wrench |
| 6 | Refill with the oil grade in the manual and check the level after a run, the filter takes part of the fill |
| 7 | Run the motor and check the filter base and the drain plug for weeps |
| 8 | Write the date and engine hours on the filter, the next owner will thank you |
